The COVID-19 Pandemic has undoubtedly had a profound impact on human behavior and priorities. As people worldwide have become more conscious of their health and well-being, there has been a significant shift in the way individuals approach their lifestyles and dietary choices. The main reason for reducing sugar consumption is the growing concern about the adverse effects of excessive sugar intake on health. Consuming too much sugar has been linked to numerous health issues, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease and dental problems.
Based on the data from International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the diabetics in Indonesia reached around 41,800 people in 2022, this figure confirmed Indonesia ranked 1st in the ASEAN and ranked 34 out of 204 countries for the most diabetics’ people. One of the ways to address the issue of diabetes is by implementing a sugar tax by the Indonesian Government. The Sugar Tax is rumored to be imposed in 2024 with the initial target being carbonated drink dan ready-to-drink beverages with the possible exemption on beverage with natural sweetener like stevia.
