Miniature Scale Food Processing Technology Gives Faster Product Development

Armfield offers a complete range of miniature-scale research and development equipment for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Designed specifically for use in the laboratory with very small quantities of product, Armfield equipment enables product developers to be creative and test formulations quickly and economically, providing accurate results for scale-up to pilot or production plant.

Using Armfield equipment to develop and test new product formulations offers several significant advantages. For example, running product trials on an Armfield system is much faster and more economical than using large-scale equipment. This enables your research and development team to be more creative when developing new products, as it is fast, easy and affordable to run a number of trials - helping you to deliver better products to your customers, in a shorter time, at a lower cost.

The Armfield range includes systems for HTST/UHT, carbonation/filling, homogenization, scraped surface heat exchangers, rapid extraction, edible oils, evaporation, RO/UF and more.

Armfield is introducing for the first time in Thailand the new FT94LT Mini Pilot System.

Due to the increased demands from Marketing departments, food and beverage manufacturers’ R&D teams are required to prepare increasingly larger volumes of sample product. As a result, Armfield Ltd has developed the new product as a cost effective HTST/UHT processing system, based on a tubular heat exchanger only, with a range of options to tailor the equipment to your requirements.

Pre-heating by vacuum steam enables you to work with a range of products with various viscosities with ease. The higher flow rate allows processing of large batches of product for extensive product testing. The system can be linked to an In-line Homogeniser (FT91) and Sterile Filler (FT83) to create a complete sterile process line in the laboratory.

The new FT94LT is capable of throughputs of 30 to 100 L/H, and process temperatures up to 150°C, yet can operate with as little as 15 litre process batches. The system is PLC controlled, with a high resolution TFT 20cm colour touch screen panel with multiple pre-sets, making it extremely user-friendly to configure and monitor processing parameters
at every stage.

At the Food Ingredients Asia exhibition we will be showcasing the FT74X HTST/UHT Unit for Processing Liquid Foods. The system is configurable as either a plate or tubular heat exchanger, and can process up to 20 litres an hour (UHT) with pasteurisation throughputs up to 50 litres an hour and process temperatures up to 150oC. The heat exchangers are mounted on a washable stainless steel service cabinet with a membrane control console. Typical applications include, among others, baby foods, beverages, condiments, flavours, milks, desserts and puddings, sauces, soups and yogurts.
The Armfield model FT174X Modular Miniature-scale HTST/UHT Process System is a recent and innovative addition to the rapidly growing portfolio, as it is the most flexible heat treatment system on the market for use in the laboratory environment.
The system is configurable depending on the process or application, and easily operates the tubular/plate heat exchangers, DSI unit or one of the many options that are available for this system.

The system can integrate an Armfield In-line Homogeniser and can include the optional Sterile Filler, Chilling Unit and Mixing Tanks to form a full miniature-scale production line, sterile or non-sterile, depending on the application. The FT174X is ideal for a wide range of applications including beverages, liquid foods, dairy and pharmaceuticals.

As a direct result of the FiA exhibition in Bangkok, we expect to generate good business associations with Thai and South Asia companies and ultimately grow mutually-beneficial and long-standing relationships. Armfield sees a strong growth potential in the use of all foods in Asia; companies in this industry can utilise our equipment to effectively develop new products with a local content to supply to this growing market. Mark Fillingham and Andy Kay look forward to meeting everyone on Booth I10 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre 21-23 September 2011.
